About: Hack the Hood is an Oakland-based, Black-led organization closing the tech equity gap for young people of color, ages 16 to 25. Since 2013, we have delivered technology training programs to more than 1,500 learners in Oakland and Alameda County (with a current annual reach of 200 youth). Our unique approach combines hands-on technical training in coding, data science, and web development skills with a strong emphasis on social justice and community empowerment.

Samia Zuber
Executive Director
Samia Zuber is the Executive Director of Hack the Hood, where she leads the organization’s strategic growth, operational excellence, and impact-driven initiatives. Since 2021, she has expanded programs, strengthened partnerships, and refined systems to support long-term sustainability. With a background in nonprofit leadership, education equity, and workforce strategy, Samia is deeply committed to creating pathways to economic mobility for Black youth and communities of color.
She previously worked at Code2040 supporting Black and Latinx technologists and holds a B.A. in Political Science from UC Davis and is currently pursuing her MBA at Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley. Samia serves on BART’s Link21 Project Equity Advisory Committee, Oakland Unified School District’s (OUSD) Career Technical Education Advisory Board, Oakland ReCAST advisory board and the Hidden Genius advisory board. She is also an alum of New Leaders Council, Brava Leaders, the Dezie Woods Jones (DWJ) Policy Fellowship and serves as first VP of Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA) Oakland/Berkeley chapter.
