Nora Tjossem serves as Executive Director of BK ROT, a community-led, bike-powered composting initiative based in Brooklyn. Since joining the organization as Operations Coordinator in June 2021, Nora has played a pivotal role in advancing BK ROT's mission to provide sustainable, equitable, and youth-driven waste solutions in Central Brooklyn. Under their leadership since November 2021, BK ROT has grown its budget, deepened its programmatic offerings and partnerships, and expanded its commercial hauling service, all while maintaining a commitment to being fossil-fuel free and community-rooted.

Nora earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with honors from Stanford University. They continued linking community with creative practice in their role as Education Coordinator at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and as a working voice actor. Their experience at BAM enriched their understanding of administration, systems building, and community engagement through youth programming. Combined with their commitment to climate and environmental justice, Nora's work continues to inspire and drive BK ROT's vision for a regenerative green economy in Brooklyn that uplifts both people and their living environment.
